Step # 3

First Time Homebuyer Checklist

Below is a handy checklist or roadmap for buying your first home (or your fifth for that matter). I would be happy to review each one of these steps in detail during your initial homebuying consultation.

I.  Before you search....Understand your Finances
  1. Have you saved for a down payment and closing costs?
  2. What is your credit score (FICO)?
  3. How much debt are you carrying?
  4. Secure a knowledgeable Loan Consultant who will thoroughly explain the facts about the different mortgage products available.
  5. Learn the advantages of loan "pre-approval"
II. Now, search for homes that fit your budget
  1. Ask yourself what features are most important to you in a home?
  2. What features are needs versus wants?
  3. Determine the general area where you would like to live.
  4. Search that area using the tools on our site or contact us to search for you.
III. You have found your dream home – Now make the offer

IV. The offer is accepted - you have a contract!
  1. Schedule a home inspection
  2. Negotiate any repairs as a result of the home inspection (if required)
  3. Schedule the closing
  4. Order the appraisal and property survey
  5. Conduct a final walk-through
  6. Provide a certified or cashiers check for the closing cost and down payment
  7. Take possession and move-in.
